Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Education teaches students real-life skills that they will use in many capacities in their future. It teaches individuals practical life skills such as: career and family preparation, and food preparation skills. It helps prepare students for college, work force, and adult life.
FCCLA is a co-curricular organization. Many of our competitive events and national programs coincide with FACS courses offered across the country, in our FACS courses we complete and utilize FCCLA STAR Events.

Purpose of Participation:
In Family and Consumer Sciences education courses students learn practical skills and apply them throughout various facets. This course is based off of current events and needs in community. This class is a quarter long course that addresses Service Learning and Integrated Current Events. In this class we address and utilize FCCLA to help complete projects.

Semester Long Course 9th - 12th Grade
Service learning is a project based course that applies community service in every aspect of the course. It provides opportunities to problem solve by using known information about the school and community to complete projects; and participate in critical reflective thinking. Students will develop leadership skills, and strengthen the bond between school and community.

Students will acquire knowledge in food nutrition and food preparation. The course teaches basic food preparation techniques with a variety of food laboratory experiences.

Using the ProStart Culinary curriculum this course is a semester in length. In this course students are able to practice and learn food safety techniques and participate in various laboratory experiences.

Interior Design
Semester Long Course 9th - 12th Grade
Interior Design helps students prepare for careers in interior design. Students will explore the history and current trends in interior design, career options within the interior design industry, the elements and principles of design, design and function of interior spaces, items used in interior environments, and interior design project and presentation skills.

Human Development: Prenatal-Toddler
Semester Long Course 9th - 12th Grade
A course that gives students an understanding of children from prenatal through toddlers. Characteristics of children and how to care for them are discussed. Students will work with RealityWorks babies, and with children on a weekly basis at a local daycare and preschool. This is an excellent course for anyone wanting to learn more about or work with children.

Human Development: Preschool- School Age
Semester Long Course 9th - 12th Grade
A course that concentrates on children ages three through school age. Students will learn characteristics of preschool and school age children and how to care for them. Students will participate in a weekly mentorship program where they will work with children in preschool or elementary classrooms. All students will become certified in CPR. This experience will allow you to work with children more in depth than Human Development I. This is an excellent course for anyone pursuing a career working with children. During the semester, students will work in local child care settings.
